Mark 9:49 AMPC

For everyone shall be salted with fire.

Marvelous greetings in Jesus’ precious name…

Have you ever swum in the ocean and received a mouthful of saltwater? Undrinkable, right? Yet, life flourishes in that saltwater. God has added just the right amount of salt to that water.

In the same way, your body, also comprising of much water, needs just the right amount of salt to function optimally.

Mark 9:50 (b) KJV

Have salt in yourselves…

Salt is good for you. It reduces high blood pressure. Hospital IV water contains salt. Especially Himalayan and Celtic salt gets your muscles and bones properly hydrated. Sodium binds to water in your body and helps maintain the balance between fluids inside and outside your cells.

In the same way that your body needs to be salted, your spirit also needs to be salted. As we saw in our opening verse, this spiritual type of salting happens by fire. You choose the fire:

Matthew 3:11 AMP

“As for me, I baptize you with water because of [your] repentance [that is, because you are willing to change your inner self—your old way of thinking, regret your sin and live a changed life], but He (the Messiah) who is coming after me is mightier [more powerful, more noble] than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to remove [even as His slave]; He will baptize you [who truly repent] with the Holy Spirit and [you who remain unrepentant] with fire (judgment).

🔥 When you receive the Holy Spirit, you receive the fire that salts you for eternal life. This is holy fire from heaven. Like with Moses and the burning bush, it puts you on holy ground. It salts you with fire. You become preserved. Look at Moses - he never lost his natural strength, even to the age of 120.

🔥 The other fire is the flame of eternal damnation. Back to our original scripture, note that the Lord was speaking also in the context of HELL…

Mark 9:47-49 ESV

[47] And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, [48] ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’ [49] For everyone will be salted with fire.

Hell is a real place and after hell comes the lake of fire - also a real place. These places are to be avoided.

Rather,

REPENT,

BOW YOUR KNEE TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST,

AND RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT.

When you do this you will be salted with purifying fire. What is more, Jesus then makes you the salt to make people thirsty for living water. I'll talk about living water next time…
